Yeh he blabbers on about (Duckswear) bells and stuff. The film bit is OK. Looking forward to the 'Stranger in the Darkroom' - he's alright - better than the flightless (Duckswear) in this video.

Reciprocity Failure - Not really a big deal

Reciprocity and film's inability to to keep within the laws of physics. It's an immensely complicated subject with a very simple solution. After struggling for hours on the web with difficult and confusing maths just follow the manufacturers instructions and experiment! Long exposure photography is fun and has quite a large tolerance for error. Dr P likes pheasants.

Buckfast Abbey Bells - Rounds on 12

Some young ringers from the Ringing World National Youth Competition held in Exeter visited the Abbey to ring after Mass today. It was a great pleasure to have them join us and they acquitted themselves very well - their towers should be proud of them. Here are a few rounds on12.

Hosanna and the Gabriel Chorus sing for Pentecost. Hosanna opens and is joined by seven of the Gabriel Chorus as they ring down ending in slightly disorganised chime reminiscent of their European cousins. This video is a trial of 4K. Having uploaded in 4k and found it only in 1080p a miracle has occurred and it is now available in 4k! No idea why. I guess YT chuck it out in HD while sorting out...

I've seen other videos and it looks good so I tried - need a lot more practice! At least the camera mics did a reasonable job with the sound Doppler shift sounds cool.

Hosanna is pretty much in the up position.
Is that the 6th floor
It is dangeros becouse the claper is heavy and bounce on the bell .Olso not recomendet becousee it will harm the ringer and if it make more than full circle it will damage or break bearings.I not recomend this becouse it will olso crack the bell

So if this were made into a change ringing bell how tall would the box the ringer would stand on since the wheel is so large? Also when you rung this did all the rope just pile onto the floor and did it feel like ringing a normal bell?
Good questions which won't be answered by practical experiment! Sorry about that. The rope just piled up on the floor. The odd thing was we had absolutely no idea Hosanna was so high. He was actually higher than it looks in the video. Caused a bit of a panic in the bell chamber and a mad rush down stairs. Took a while to convince those ringing him that there was a rapidly approaching danger of him going over the balance. It was an event we don't want repeated.

There is something so wonderful about the prewar Taylor tenors,they have a wonderful drone to them and for some reason post war tenor soud great but dont have that drone which seems to provide a wonderful warmth and depth to all the bells when they ring
